Facing a Legend
On June 12, 2010 Pat "HD" Barry (5-1-0) will face Mirko Cro Cop (26-7-2) inside the octagon. The nervous energy is flowing and with only four months to go, Pat Barry describes Mirko Cro Cop as one of his top five favorite kick boxers, even before he began in the UFC. Pat explains "I've never met him (Cro Cop) in person, this is outrageous and unbelievable. I want to ask him for an autograph before the fight."
HDNet's Ron Kruck, alongside of MMA Scraps Radio interview Pat regarding his upcoming fight.
MMA fans are with mixed emotion as they dont want to see either one lose. Pro Barry fans hope he wins, but dont want to see Cro Cop retire. While the Cro Cop supporters do not want to see Pat Barry get cut if he loses. No matter the stance, it is going to be a tough situation. Pat explains "I dont want to see him lose, but now I want to win."
At 5'11, Barry could be the target for Cro Cop's left high kick. Pat details "if he kicks a little higher than waist level, I'm getting kicked in the face. I've got my fingers crossed that I don't get kicked in the face."
Although Cro Cop has a three inch height advantage, Pat Barry expressed he thinks he is faster than Cro Cop. "I'm gonna have a certain window of opportunity, because he adapts quickly. I'm gonna use my strategy to catch him off guard and capitalize off of it."
Cro Cop's renowned image will encourage Pat Barry to perform better and bring out the best in his fighting. "I've got no choice but to perform the best I can. He is a highly skilled fighter who is as dangerous as he always was; it’s the other fighters who need to evolve." What better way for Barry to contribute to the evolution of the sport than to fight one of his own idols. It will no doubt be a good "big name" fight.

“A Phoenix Rising”

Growing up in Idaho with two brothers and a sister, Jens Pulver faced his first battle to overcome an abusive father. To escape his stressful home life, Pulver needed an outlet and became interested in wrestling at age six. Throughout his high school years he continued to wrestle, but then in college he started to gain an interest in mixed martial arts.
In 1999, Pulver began to fight to “change his name” when he started in the UFC. After four fights and achieving a World Lightweight Championship title in the UFC, he left to fight overseas. After mixed success, he returned to the UFC to coach on Season 5 of the Ultimate Fighter. After his loss to BJ Penn at the finale, he switched over to the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) in 2007. You won’t find Jens in it for the money, he explains “I do it for the fans, and I enjoy every minute of it.”
Coming off of four straight losses, “Little Evil” (22-12-1) describes how the disappointment caused him panic attacks and depression. “I was dying on the inside and I had to face my own mortality.” Through professional intervention and a strong feeling of responsibility for his family, Jens now feels encouraged to journey back to the cage on March 6, 2010 against Javier Vazquez. Pulver thanks his fans for not giving up on him. “They saved me, they brought me back.”
Life has not been easy for Pulver, but he has a fighter’s determination to rise up like a phoenix. Greg Bayne identified this quality and is currently filming a documentary featuring Pulver called “Driven.” Jens talks about the documentary and tell how it highlights “his life, his family, his career, being out in Idaho and how this next fight could be his last.” This film was entirely funded by Jens fans over a several week period. Not only did they raise the $25,000 necessary, they raised more. "I didn't think we were going to do it (raise enough money) either..but man, people stepped up and I don't even know how to thank them." Jens wants to give back to everyone who has helped him along the way, stating “it’s my turn to make a difference” for the sport of MMA.
As his aspirations change, Pulver has a more positive attitude which could be just the ingredient he needs to win the March 6th fight. He attributes his past success to Tony Fryklund, who continues to play an essential part in his current training.
Pulver has a new clothing line and training center as part of the Driven Nation. The Driven Training Center is located in Nampa, Idaho and offers several classes for kids and adults. Pulver believes in leading a healthy life and the training facility reflects that with world class instruction and a learning center. For more information on the Driven Training Center please visit http://driveninc.net/ .

"Staying in the Game"

Andrei Arlovski (15-7-0) has fought in the MMA world for nearly ten years, eight of them with the UFC. In February 2009, Arlovski signed with Golden Boy Promotions Inc to pursue his talents in the boxing ring. After taking some time off since his loss to Brett Rogers in June 2009, Team Pitbull recently announced that Andrei Arlovski will make his boxing debut against Fres Oquendo on February 27, 2010. This exhibition fight is an event organized by Roy and Lea Black called “The Consequences Charity”. All money raised from this event will go directly to the charity, which is dedicated to reducing adolescent criminal behavior by offering community intervention programs.
While training for his four round boxing debut in Miami, he has been working with Mike Garcia several times a week. He also continues to work on his boxing skills with well-known trainer Freddie Roach several times a year. Due to his last loss Arlovski's camp also advised him to train with Greg Jackson to work on his striking and Jiu Jitsu. This training will start shortly after the charity event,in preparation for his upcoming MMA contract. All around, Arlovski is looking to improve and come back stronger than ever.
With all his hard work and dedication to regain his heavyweight champ status, he still finds the time to connect with his supporters. Arlovski is no stranger to social networking as he is on Twitter and also has an extensive website (http://www.arlovski.com/) that is updated regularly. His website is also the host to live video chats with him every three to four weeks. Arlovski explains the importance of this communication by saying “My fans support me, they give me energy and I am more open because of my fans.”
Aside from his ambitious goal to be a champion again, Arlovski just appeared in the movie "Universal Soldier: Regeneration". This has been his biggest movie role by far as he has also been in a few movies in Russia. "We spent six weeks in Bulgaria, we had a lot of fun and the crew was great" explains Arlovski.
Perhaps after a few victories we may see him back in the UFC as he explains that the relationship is good between them. Until then, he is doing everything that he can do to train hard and to fight hard. In the weeks to come, we should hear more on Arlovski's upcoming MMA contract.
