Quinton "Rampage" Jackson Announces Retirement

After an illustrious career in both Japan and America, Quinton "rampage" Jackson has decided to hang up the 4 oz gloves & retire.

Most recently beating Keith Jardine, Rampage just finished filming "The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights" on which he was one of the head coaches. As with every other TUF season, Coach Jackson & Coach Rashad Evans were originally scheduled to fight on December 5, a week before the December 12 TUF finale. However, last month Rampage decided to postpone that fight in order to play Mr.T in the movie rendition of "The A-Team." After comments from UFC President (& Rampage's close friend) regarding his displeasure with Rampage's choice were made public many speculated Rampage would back out of his silver-screen obligations.

Below is Jackson's statement he released via his website

The UFC has done a lot for me but I think I have done more for them. The UFC bought WFA to get my contract & they saved my life, so I felt loyal to them. They pushed me into a fight with Chuck Liddel even when I clearly stated I wasn't ready to fight for the belt because the American fans didn't know me but I took the fight and didn't complain & after I won the American fans booed me for the first time which changed the way I saw them & it hurt me deeply.

Then before I can even get out of the cage they announced that I was fighting Dan Henderson without even asking me. After I beat Dan Henderson, I made history in becoming the first undisputed champion in MMA but was never even given the pride belt in the cage & I was never promoted as the undisputed champ. Later Anderson Silva was.

Then they had me coach TUF season 7 and fight Forrest and the fight was very controversial & normally when a fight is that close & controversial there is normally an instant replay. I can name a couple of instances. Instead they offered me the Vanderlei Silva fight which I gladly accepted even though I know it was a very risky fight for me to take because of all the drama that was happening to me at the time. I fought that fight with a jaw injury and then a couple weeks later Dana called me and asked me to fight Rashad. For the first time I said no, I didn't want to fight because it was such short notice & I wouldn't have had a long break between camp. Dana talked me into fighting Rashad anyway but Rashad refused the fight and so I had to fight Jardine as a favor to the UFC instead of getting my belt back (which wasn't even worth it to me financially).

Then I reinjured my jaw in the fight with Vanderlei & Jardine. Frank Mir gets hurt so they wanted to switch my fight from UFC 100 to the fight Frank couldn't make it to but I couldn't fight cause I needed jaw surgury. So they give Machida the fight against Rashad & they told me they want me to coach TUF season 10 against Rashad. That's why I wanted Rashad to win so bad but when Rashad got knocked out I told them I wanted to fight Machida for the belt but Dana told me if I coach TUF against Rashad that I could fight Machida afterwards cause this was a different type of ultimate fighter show they were doing. After I signed the contract Dana then changes his mind & says I have to fight Rashad & even told me what to say in the press & so my fans think I was scared to fight Machida. After all that I still never complained & I did it all.

Then this movie role came about that I have been trying to get for over a year & as soon as I found out I was close to getting it, I called Dana right away & asked to push the Memphis fight back just a month or so. I told him what this movie role meant to me. I told him that I used to bond with my father watching the tv show as a kid when my parents where still married & it represents the memories I had with my father when we lived together. My dad became an alcohalic & addicted to drugs & we grew apart. But after my dad got his life back together, I was so proud of my dad & I told him I would always take care of him in the future & make him proud of me. My dad & I are still very big fans of the show & I am basically doing this for the childhood memories I had spending time in front of the tv with my dad. Dana went on the internet & mocked me because of that & I still did nothing. Dana & I finally talked & we made up & then after that he went back on the internet & said some bullshit & he was talking bad about the movie when information is not even supposed to be released & talking about payments which is not even true could really hurt my future acting career, which could very well last longer than my fighting career. I'm not like Randy Couture. My body has been getting so many different injuries that I wont be able to fight until my forties & neither do I want to fight that long. So I feel like my second career could be in jeopardy.. so I'm done fighting. I've been getting negative reviews from the dumb ass fans that don't pay my bills or put my kids though college. So I'm hanging it up. I'm gonna miss all my loyal fans but hopefully they'll follow me to my new career & I will gain more loyal fans along the way. & all you hater fans out there can kiss my big black hairy ass! & anybody that don't like what I just said can come try to kick my ass!

I still feel the UFC is a great organization and I felt like I was very loyal to them but they didn't respect my loyalty but I wish the UFC the best. I did a lot of things for them. I wish no bad blood between us but I have kids & a family back in Memphis to provide for & thats all that matters to me!

  3. Rampage is cracking up. His mental game is the worst. I think he is saving face from getting destroyed by Machida or Evans.

  4. did u even read the article? there was a time when ppl prided themselves in giving intelligent comments instead of dumb stupid responses. Its his life, you dont take care of his kids or pay his bills. It u took the time to actually read the article, u would understand why he is leaving. Saying he is retiring cos "he doesnt want to get beat" is just as stupid as it gets

  10. i agree with everyone saying you can't knock rampage for his decision. it's his life and he is thinking of what's best for him. you can't make him fight if he doesn't want to and i don't blame him for not wanting to deal with dana white anymore. i'm not saying that i know dana white personally or have ever done business with him. but by the looks of things, he is more in it for the money and profits and barely keeping the interests of the fighters in mind. sounds like he treats most of his fighters like shit. almost like the bob arum of mma. hope everything goes good for rampage. he's done so much for the sport and fans and kept us entertained in and out of the ring. he's definitely earned every penny, if not more, for his contributions. gonna miss his fights and antics though.

  11. Gotta Respect Rampage. Hearing more about this dana character makes me realize what a douche he is.

  12. The biggest superstar in the history of MMA is leaving :( I'm miss you Rampage! Do well at acting, i'm sure you will. Funny as hell you are. True.

  13. Dana needs to learn to shut his fucking mouth. He always puts a bad light on the business. I have no idea why Zuffa thinks he is a good public face for the company.

He is constantly saying things and acting like a total douche. Instead of making these outlandish public statements he should be approaching the fighters himself and not airing dirty laundry in public.

Do not forget just a couple months ago he commented publicly about crocop calling him names all based on a fucking internet rumor. Luckily crocop was gentlemen enough to let it slide. Now he goes and publicly tries to embarrass a great and publicly loved fighter.

Zuffa needs to wake the fuck up and leave dana behind the scenes and not allow him to make any statements on the behalf of their company anymore.

  17. You know youre a douche if... you disagree with Rampage here. Simple as it gets. Good luck friend, and thanks for the awesome memories. Youll still have a fan base, tho. Were not going anywhere.

  18. Rampage is a moron, and he IS afraid of losing.....again! Acting???? Come on buddy. How many roles can you howl at the moon in?

  19. Hopefully Dana will sue him for breach of contract. After how the UFC helped him after his huge "meltdown"

You just said good bye to the gravy train Wimpage Jackson

  20. Belfort will be fighting Anderson next... Rampage don't leave us!!! :D

  21. They gave you a shot at the belt too soon......this is a bad thing you tool?! Do you know how many fighters would have killed(not literally hopefully) to be given the red carpet you have? Good riddance.

I pity the fool who thinks he can act

  22. I wonder if the second career he was talking about was running over pregnant women with a van or if it was acting. I notice how that whole lawsuit/jail sentence thing didn't come up when he was talking about loyalty.

PS. If the same guy gave me the worst beat-down of my life TWICE. I'd learn how to spell his name. Wanderlei*

My take: You're a Mixed Martial Artist. We've seen nothing from you to make "us haters" think anything else. If this were a year from now, after your movie came out to huge accolades it'd be a different story.

  23. He's pulling a reverse Brock Lesnar. From fighting to acting. I don't think he'll fare as well as Brock did after his move though. First B.A., next Black Hamlet. LOL

  24. Rampage is a solid MMA troll. I don't know how much truth there is to this story, but if it's true then damn. I was about to cry and when he said to kiss his big black hairy ass I lol'd instantly. Damn, if Rampage is really retiring, I will miss him. He's the funniest motherfucker in MMA period.

  26. RE. Sorry Rampage.
Last week I spoke about Rampage disrespectfully on Mma Scraps site. It was just after hearing Dana on a radio show speak about Rampage. I was byest towards Dana and commented ''wake up Quinton, UFC/mma is your home, we don't want to see you go'', along with an another derogatory comment about an 'possible A-team ring entry gimick', instead of his wolf howl. I also said he was no actor, when I know clearly in my heart and mind, that Rampage is hilarious and has great unique comedy skills. I have commented before saying that I love Rampage and all his different skills he has.

  27. But, all of the above is embarresing for me to write and just shows weaknesses in my character. I felt terrible reading his statement and saddened by not only his departure, but what I had written about him the week before. I would 'twitter' Rampage but im not on there anymore, so hopefully he will read this. When i was on Twitter a while ago, I was following only a handful of people, Rampage was one of them. I mailed him one day supporting and thanking him for introducing me to 'The Secret' Dvd, which he spoke of, in one of his videos. I watched it and it changed my life, it also gave me a higher state of conciousness too.
I feel abit better being able to apolgise to him on here (in public), instead of in an email to himself that only he could read, so, sorry Quinton Rampage Jackson (if you are reading this).

  28. Rampage is a lovable and funny, popular guy. He could do great in acting and go far. I reckon he will be turning big film roles down in future, just so he can come back to the UFC to kick booty all over again!!...speaking of backsides, im struggling to get Rampages (quote) ''big black hairy ass'' (unquote) out of my mind. But that's my own fault for dissing him! Anyway BIG love to you Rampage and apologies from The Isle of Man. You are more of a man than I/most of us will ever be. Respect.
    Yours sincerley,
    steve Allen (I.O.M)
Also, any Rampage fans reading his statement should not give Dana any flack, as he has a business to run and has to make important, difficult and no doubt stressful decisions all day.

  29. straight up, dana is a two-faced brown-nosin' ass licker like most people in media/business- gratz to the man who thinks of family first- and let's face it, who doesn't want to see dana get in the ring and do somethin' besides talk, come on Tuffa, u know the ratings would be thru the roof, and every fighter would be salivating at the opportunity to knock the boss's block of, big bucks to be had.....

  30. ^dude your gay.... anyways rampage can always go back to japan and fight in dream? good luck with the movie tho

  31. Rampage-
You are making the right move and staying true to yourself and your family. I can't wait to see you as Mr. T. You are talented, with great comedic timing and you have a great screen presence and in terms of MMA- honestly, you have nothing left to prove(although you would have handed Rashad his 2nd loss)(You vs Machida would be a great fight, however, again, you have nothing to prove- you are a hall of famer and a beast in the ring. Break a leg!

  32. Rampage.. Follow your heart and do whats right for you and your family.

All the real rampage fans will ride this next journey with you.

The only sad feeling i have, is not seeing you hold that belt up after knocking out evans and Machida..

    Peace bro!

  33. I met him at UFC 95, great guy!

Mr Jackson it was good to read your statement, im surprised and dissapointed at your retirement from mma but you gotta do what you gotta do!
I hope you will do the movie role, recover from your injuries and train to GET THAT BELT BACK one last time in the UFC and walk away and retire on top! You should definitely be inducted into the UFC hall of fame too. Then you can continue in acting all you want!
All your fans support your decision and understand your reasons but we all hope you will come back in the not too distant future to the UFC and finish on TOP! - You definitely have the talent and potential.
And us Brits welcome you anytime to come back to the UK and train at The Wolfslair!!!

  34. Well, he's going to be missed. I remember the days in Pride when he slammed the shit out of people to make his name, I also remember his bold wacky humor that always made people laugh. Like humping numerous reporter chicks in different situations. Not only was he a real goof, but he was also a very good fighter; one who brought an intensity not yet seen before him. In his personal and professional life, Quinton has showed people what it is to be a fighter. A guy dealing with personal issues, and a father providing for his family. To an international star earning his way into the spotlight while putting a smile on many fans faces. I personally will always remember Quinton "RAMPAGE" Jackson when thinking about MMA, and look forward to seeing him transition into a different career. He can definitely hang up those gloves with pride.

    Thanks,
    David M
